Theme and IGIF Introduction

From intent to execution: Building momentum for India's climate solutions

The India Green Investment Forum (IGIF), hosted by the Impact Investors Council (IIC), returns at a moment when green finance in India is shifting from intent to execution. The ecosystem is no longer testing ideas — it's scaling them. IGIF 2025 is where momentum builds, connections deepen, and investment flows accelerate.

This year's theme, "Scaling India's Climate Solutions: Building for the World," reflects India's readiness to lead with solutions rooted in innovation, sustainability, and inclusion.

India now boasts a growing pipeline of climate-first enterprises, supportive policies, and institutional investors prepared to back scale-ready models. With catalytic capital already in motion and operational models taking shape across sectors, the conversation is no longer "why" or "when" but "how fast" and "how far."

ABOUT THE FORUM

India Green Investment Forum

The India Green Investment Forum (IGIF) returns with its second edition at a time when green finance in India is no longer in pilot mode. From proof-of-concept to proof-of-scale, the market is shifting and IGIF is where the action converges.

Hosted by the Impact Investors Council, IGIF 2025 is the country’s definitive convening on climate finance bringing together policymakers, global investors, development institutions, philanthropies, financial intermediaries, and climate-first enterprises. This isn’t just a gathering, it’s a gearshift. IGIF 2025 is designed for momentum: sharp plenaries, sector deep-dives, investor dialogues, and curated LP-GP engagements. Every session is built to spark collaboration, mobilise investment, and push green solutions to scale.

The forum reflects a deeper truth: green capital in India has arrived. The ecosystem is maturing, infrastructure is building, and the case for climate investments is stronger than ever. What’s needed now is speed, connection, and execution

    About this Session

As the inaugural session of the India Green Investment Forum, this conversation will spotlight the visionaries who have been at the forefront of climate investing in India. These industry leaders- early pioneers in backing transformative climate solutions-will reflect on how the investment landscape has evolved, the models and innovations that have stood the test of time, and the role of policy in shaping opportunities. 9. Plenary 2 - LP Perspectives: Tapping Diverse Capital Sources to Drive India’s Climate Story

    October 30, 2025 • 12:30 PM - 01:15 PM

    About this Session

India’s climate ambitions cannot be met without bold capital at scale-yet mobilizing diverse LP sources remains one of the sector’s biggest bottlenecks. While development finance institutions and philanthropic investors have played a catalytic role, the participation of mainstream commercial capital, pension funds, insurers, and large family offices is still limited. This session will challenge leading LPs to share what it will take for them to lean in more decisively: the risk-return profiles they seek, the structures and track records they expect, and the enabling policies that could unlock their participation. The discussion will also probe the uncomfortable questions-are climate funds speaking the language LPs want to hear, are capital pools siloed rather than blended, and what must change if India is to position itself not just as an emerging opportunity, but as a global leader in climate investing at scale.

  10. Lunch Break

    1:15 - 2:15 pm

  11. Keynote 3

    2:15 - 2:30 pm

  12. Plenary 3 - Evolving Debt Underwriting Mechanisms for Funding Climate Innovation

    October 30, 2025 • 02:30 PM - 03:30 PM

    About this Session

IIC research highlights a growing shift-climate innovators in India are increasingly turning to debt to power their growth journeys. While equity capital remains critical for early experimentation and proving market readiness, it is debt that enables scale once product-market fit is achieved. Yet, most climate business models are still unfamiliar to traditional lenders, often viewed through a high-risk lens. This session will bring together leading debt providers to unpack how underwriting approaches are evolving to serve climate entrepreneurs, the structural barriers that keep many high-impact ventures “debt-unready,” and the innovative strategies needed to bridge this financing gap. The conversation will shed light on what it takes to make debt a catalytic force in accelerating India’s climate transition.

  13. Plenary 4 - Thematic Deepdive: Energy and Feedstock Transformation

    October 30, 2025 • 03:30 PM - 04:30 PM

    About this Session

As India accelerates its clean energy transition, questions remain on how different technologies and business models will come together to shape the future of energy. From battery storage and green hydrogen to evolving feedstock strategies and flexible power systems, this session will explore how investors are viewing opportunities and risks across the spectrum. Discussion will explore: 1.As policy momentum accelerating energy transformation, how is private capital placed to develop a focused investment thesis around emerging spaces in green hydrogen, battery energy storage and other energy transformation levers 2.What do investors seek to drive m long-term capital into these areas 3.Is financial innovation the need of the hour? What kind of structures could move the needle and aid in market building of upcoming innovations? 4.As the deep-tech wave emerges, how is the investment pipeline shaping up? What do potential investors need to bear in mind, to build a deep-tech expertise in asset-heavy energy innovations 5.Where can India realistically build competitiveness in the global energy value chain

    October 31, 2025 • 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM

    About this Session

Policy will make or break India’s green transition and development finance institutions (DFIs) are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between ambition and action. This session will unpack how evolving policies on energy, mobility, agriculture, and carbon markets are shaping investment opportunities, while also spotlighting the bottlenecks that continue to deter private capital. Leading DFIs and policymakers will share how they are navigating risks, structuring investments, and aligning global climate goals with India’s development priorities. The discussion will probe tough questions: Are current policies investment-grade? How can DFIs play a catalytic role in de-risking and crowding in commercial capital? And what shifts are needed to ensure India’s policy landscape accelerates, rather than constrains, its green transition.

  5. Keynote 5

    11:00 - 11:15 am

  9. Plenary 8 - Blended Finance for Climate Action: Leveraging Innovative Financing Mechanisms

    October 31, 2025 • 12:45 PM - 01:30 PM

    About this Session

Closing India’s climate finance gap will require capital that is not just plentiful, but also patient, risk-tolerant, and innovative. Blended finance has emerged as a powerful tool to unlock this capital—bringing together concessional, philanthropic, and commercial sources to fund climate solutions that would otherwise struggle to scale. This session will explore cutting-edge structures and instruments-from first-loss guarantees and results-based financing to carbon markets and platform approaches-that are reshaping the landscape. Investors and practitioners will share what has worked (and what hasn’t), the barriers that still prevent blended finance from moving from pilot to mainstream, and how India can position itself as a global leader in mobilizing blended capital for climate action.

  10. Lunch Break

    1:30 - 2:30 pm

  11. Keynote 7

    2:30 - 2:45 pm

  12. Plenary 9 - Thematic Deepdive: Li-ion Battery Recycling

    October 31, 2025 • 02:45 PM - 03:45 PM

    About this Session

As EV adoption surges, and waste management grows as an environmental need, battery recycling is becoming central to supply chain security and the circular economy. Battery recycling and second-life applications represent a strategic opportunity at the intersection of critical mineral security, resource efficiency, and circular economy innovation. However, is this the next wave of climate investment, or a space still searching for scalable models? This session will examine how investors, entrepreneurs, and policymakers are approaching the economics, risks, and global positioning of India’s recycling industry. Discussion will cover: 1.Is the LiB recycling space matching the pace that the EV growth merits? How can investors capitalise on this emerging space, whilst also addressing technology and supply chain risks? 2.What are the emerging business models across battery waste collection, processing, and second-life applications, that hold immediate promise? 3.The role of EPR and regulatory frameworks in shaping investor confidence; what do investors really seek? 4.What do potential investors need to bear in mind while investng in LiB recycling? 5.How can financial innovation drive and position India’s as a global leader in battery circularity? The discussion aims to cover: 1.Cooling as both a development necessity and an investment frontier – why did this space take so long to emerge as a potential investment opportunity? 2.The landscape of cooling solutions in India – what seems to be working? And what does not? 3.Exploring the viability of business model innovations such as Cooling-as-a-Service, cold-chain-as-a-service, and community-level cooling. 4.How could investors develop a cooling-based investment strategy? Do we look at sector-focused initiatives or a sector-agnostic one? 5.The role of policy frameworks like ICAP, efficiency standards, and subnational initiatives as investment catalysts 6.The role of financial innovation to address heat resilience for 7.heat-stressed regions.

  13. Plenary 10 - Thematic Deepdive: Sustainable Cooling & Heat Resilience

    October 31, 2025 • 03:45 PM - 04:45 PM

    About this Session

Rising heat and soaring demand for cooling present India with both a resilience challenge and a climate opportunity. Yet questions remain on the scale of demand, affordability, and the right models for investment. This session will look at how financiers and innovators view cooling as a frontier sector, and whether resilience-focused solutions can attract capital at scale.

IIC’s role in strengthening India’s climate investment landscape is both significant and inspiring. Forums like IGIF and Prabhav stand out for turning conversations into concrete action. IGIF 2023 was especially important for spotlighting investible, early-stage climate innovations and convening investors, policymakers and entrepreneurs capable of accelerating their success.

IGIF, along with the biennial Prabhav, has played a valuable role in spotlighting India’s unique strengths in climate innovation and connecting not only the Indian stakeholders, but allowed for interactions with global capital providers. As an impact investor, community/ecosystem builder and global connector, and being a long-term supporter, I’ve seen firsthand how the forum creates meaningful dialogue between investors, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, moving beyond rhetoric to concrete, investible opportunities.

What sets events such as IGIF apart is its ability to bridge the differences in goals for stakeholder groups, and synthesize an agenda which appeals to all, and naturally showcases opportunities to work together. The ability to build relationships across all stakeholder groups and then follow up and explore meaningful synergistic opportunities are why I will continue to support, attend and participate (as I can) in IGIF because they bring stakeholder groups together, which does enhance momentum for climate change in the country, and does so in a relevant, thoughtful manner.
